Music Ensembles

The Music Ensembles are part of the Cultural Activities organized by the Student Club of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB).

Their aim is to provide students with opportunities for musical education, organize courses and seminars on musicology, music history, and musical instruments, as well as establish and operate a student choir and orchestra. The core principles of the groups are individual effort, teamwork, and collaboration.

The music ensembles participate in events organized by the AUEB Student Club, as well as in the University’s national anniversary celebrations.

CHOIR

The AUEB Student Club Choir is a four-part mixed vocal ensemble consisting of university students.

Choir members participate in rehearsals held on campus according to a flexible schedule.

As part of the choir training, students receive instruction in music theory and choral techniques. At the same time, the range and vocal type of each choir member are assessed in order to achieve a high-quality choral performance.

The aim of the choir is to encourage students’ artistic engagement within the university community, providing musical performances for university events and celebrations, while also working towards further artistic appearances.

The AUEB Student Club Choir has performed works from Greek and international cinema, as well as contemporary Greek music, including works by Manos Hadjidakis, Mikis Theodorakis, Giorgos Hatzinasios, and Mimis Plessas, among others, and international music by artists such as The Beatles, Queen, and Santana. The choir is primarily accompanied by piano, with strings, wind instruments, and percussion occasionally added.

VIOLIN & PIANO LESSONS

The AUEB Student Club gives students the opportunity to engage with and express themselves through musical instruments such as the violin and piano, regardless of their level of experience.

Classical violin is taught at all levels, along with improvisation. Piano is taught up to intermediate level, as well as music reading and basic music theory. Lessons may be individual or group-based in the case of musical ensembles, such as trios and quartets, and take place on campus according to a flexible schedule.

CHAMBER MUSIC ENSEMBLES

The AUEB chamber music ensembles, such as trios and quartets, are purely instrumental and may include bowed or plucked string instruments (violin, viola, cello, classical guitar, etc.), wind instruments (flute, oboe, etc.), and keyboard instruments such as the piano.

Members study and perform works primarily from the Western European musical tradition, ranging from the Middle Ages to the present day. Their repertoire has included works by L. V. Beethoven, H. Wieniawski, D. Shostakovich, and others.

TRADITIONAL, ROCK, JAZZ & IMPROVISATION ENSEMBLES

These ensembles are continuously reconfigured with the aim of achieving the best possible interpretation of the works performed at various University events, while also maximizing student participation.

Depending on the occasion, the ensembles may include string, wind, and percussion instruments, such as guitar, bouzouki, violin, double bass/electric bass, flute, clarinet, drums, accordion, piano, and others, providing students with the opportunity to participate regardless of their musical background or instrument.
